Ekaterina Kukhareva AW13 The return of the housewife - Fashion Scout

Ekaterina Kukhareva's AW13 "Cul-de-sac Heroine" (trans. as the dead-end heroine) collection brings us this retro housewife bored of enldess coffee mornings and tennis coach fantasies, that ventures on an exotic journey of self-discovery and exploration. This not only marks the return of the housewife as a symbol of femininity, but it portrays her as creative, fun, confident and extremely sensual.

Does anyone remember the super sexy and passionate housewife, portrayed by Madonna in Dolce and Gabbana's AW2010 campaign, shot by Steven Klein? I don't think it is easy to forget Madonna wearing a tight, leopard-print dress with a well defined cleavage over the sink, washing dishes.

Well Ekaterina Kukhareva's housewives have brought a more sophisticated touch and the entire collection was a visual feast of bright colours and beautifully knitted dresses, complementing the female form. The look of our dead-end heroine would have not been complete without accessories designer Lara Jensen's oversized hair curlers, bags and jewellery, that contributed to the funny, quirky story of the collection.

"Of course, in her fantasies, our Heroine uses Byzantine and Ottoman dishes. This decoration makes for stunning floor length body-con pieces, as well as quirky biker jackets and narrow leg heavyweight trousers" (Press Release)
